St. Luke’s is a parish with a strong sense of community and family. Our parishioners are infants, octogenarians and everyone in between. This welcoming and inviting community admires the beauty of the Episcopal liturgy.
The outstanding music and graceful liturgy are central to the life of St. Luke’s. Our worship is greatly enhanced by the beautiful sanctuary with stained glass windows.
St. Luke’s is a peaceful, comfortable, welcoming place to worship. We have a long tradition of high-quality preaching, based on sound theology and its applications to daily life.
OUR LITURGY
Our Sunday services have been described as beautiful, uplifting, contemplative, and dignified. While St. Luke’s parishioners prefer the traditional Rite I and Rite II liturgies, augmented on occasion by liturgies from other traditions, there is also a growing interest in inclusive language. Beautiful choral and organ music are central to the worship experience at our 10:00 am service.
We offer open communion and invite all to participate, including children who have been baptized. We also offer special services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Thanksgiving Eve. Other holy days are celebrated on the Sunday closest to the date. On Christmas Eve, we have a popular children’s Nativity pageant and family Eucharist that draws a large number of friends and family.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Nursery and Preschool: St. Luke’s has a nursery and preschool program during the 10:00 am service.
Elementary Ages: Our children from ages four to ten are enrolled in the children’s Atrium. Our curriculum is the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based program that emphasizes child-centered activity and worship.
Adult Education: We have a series of Bible study classes
at various times during the year. During Lent, the rector often
conducts a lecture series on a related topic.

The Rev. Dana Corsello

revdana@stlukessf.org

Dana was called as Rector of St. Luke’s in June of 2009 and joined the community in August. Before arriving in San Francisco, Dana was the Associate Rector of St. James’s in Richmond, VA where she served for nearly nine years. Prior to St. James’s she served as the Associate Rector of St. Mary’s-in-Tuxedo, Tuxedo Park, New York for two years. Dana was graduated from The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City in 1999. A few weeks after receiving her Master of Divinity degree she married Andrew Corsello in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at GTS. Prior to seminary, Dana worked in magazine publishing in St. Louis, Austin, Texas and Manhattan. She was graduated from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism in 1985. Her husband, Andrew, is a magazine writer who writes primarily for GQ Magazine. They have two sons: Quincy, a second grader, and Casper, a kindergartner, who are loving their new lives in San Francisco. Dana was born and raised in Midland, Texas where her family still lives.
Paul Brian
MUSIC DIRECTOR
paul@stlukessf.org

St. Luke’s choir, led by Music Director Paul Brian, beautifully and adeptly sings both traditional and difficult liturgical pieces. For Easter and Christmas and other special occasions we often have an instrumental ensemble to accompany the choir.
Paul has a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and over forty years of experience as a concert soloist, as well as singing and directing for several churches and synagogues.
Burt Weaver
ORGANIST

A magnificent large pipe organ built by the famed Aeolian-Skinner Organ Company is one of the keystones of great music at St. Luke's. Aeolian-Skinner was the leader of the "American Classic" movement in organ design that commanded the pipe organ world from the 1930s to the 1970s. Boston’s Symphony Hall, New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the Mormon Tabernacle also enjoy these great organs.
St. Luke’s organ has a total of slightly more than 3,400 pipes resulting in a "cathedral sound" rarely equaled in any church on the West Coast. In addition, the spectacular acoustics of the French Gothic building enhance a lot of our music.
As our organist Burt Weaver declares, "We have a great treasure in the St. Luke's organ that is known and respected by the musical and religious communities nationally." Burt has music degrees from West Chester University in Pennsylvania and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. His organ teachers have been Harry Wilkinson, David Craighead, and Leo Sowerby.
