MINISTRIES & COMMUNITY OUTREACH
St. Luke’s plays host to various community organizations. We provide office space for Eldergivers, a senior outreach program, and meeting space for Alcoholics Anonymous, Bishop’s Ranch Board meetings, and Daughters of the British Empire meetings. St. Luke’s opens its doors for concerts by various community groups such as the San Francisco Girls Chorus Alumnae. We also offer choral and organ concerts during the year.
VOLUNTEERING
Welcome Ministry: St. Luke’s joined with Old First Presbyterian Church to found and support the Welcome Ministry, a popular food and care program for homeless neighbors. The Ministry currently serves a successful community dinner most Saturday evenings, feeding approximately 100 guests. While the site of the meals is fixed at Old First Presbyterian for space reasons, several churches actually provide the community dinners and service on a rotating basis. It also has drop-in services available at the center at Old First.
Food Bank: St. Luke’s congregation supports the San Francisco Food Bank by donating non-perishable food each month to a barrel located near the entrance to the church. Items needed per family are 1 bag of pasta; 2 cans of vegetables; 1 can of tuna or chicken; 1 can of chili, soup, or chicken— no glass please.
St. Nicholas Theological College: St. Luke’s actively prays for and supports St. Nicholas Theological College in Cape Coast, Ghana, currently the only seminary in West Africa. Clergy and parishioners have visited St. Nicholas many times and have preached there. The Very Reverend Dr. Victor Atta-Baffoe, Dean of the College, has visited and preached at St. Luke’s. Support from the St. Luke’s parish helped build a library and other facilities at the College.
Eldergivers: Become a friend to an elder confined to a
nursing home.
Eldergivers has an office in our Parish House.
Eucharistic Visitor: Bringing communion to shut-ins is one
way of bringing our ministry to frail elders, the ill or disabled.
